We’ve all been trained through movies, television shows, books, etc., that meeting ‘the one,’ or that perfect person you’re going to spend the rest of your life with will come in a flash.
Perhaps you’ll literally knock each other over in the street, spilling coffee everywhere, or you’ll get into a slight fender bender and your eyes will lock in an instant. Chances are, these kinds of scenarios just aren’t going to happen to you. Life isn’t a movie, and the love of your life won’t be, either.
Luckily, there are some tried and true signs to look out for when it comes to deciding if you’ve actually found ‘the one.’
# 1. You Can Be Yourself
Have you ever been in a relationship where it felt as though you were wearing a mask the entire time, or you had to hide away certain parts of yourself because you were either embarrassed, your partner didn’t like them, or you weren’t sure if they would like those traits or not? When you’ve found that perfect person, being yourself will just come naturally. You won’t be worried about what they think, because you know they love you regardless, including those ‘quirky’ traits.
# 2. You Want Similar Futures
Nothing can be worse than two people who are in a loving relationship, but want two very different things for the future. When you’ve met ‘the one,’ their plans for the future will line up with yours. Whether that includes marriage and children, or traveling, or anything in between. You shouldn’t have to compromise what you want in your life for your perfect person.
# 3. You Just Feel Lucky!
When you’ve found someone you’re crazy about, you’ll feel lucky! Whether you want to shout it from the rooftops, or just keep it to yourself and let your heart feel full, sometimes you can’t explain the feelings someone is able to give you, but all of us have an inner sense as to a love that’s really different from the rest, and once you’ve found ‘the one,’ you’ll feel it for yourself.
# 4. You Both Feel The Same Way
If you’re both 100% committed to the relationship, and feel the same way about each other, it can make those feelings of happiness and luck increase tenfold. Go ahead, shout it from the rooftops together! You’re lucky enough to be one of those couples who has truly found happiness in one other person, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
# 5. Others See How Happy You Are
Okay, even if you’re not shouting your proclamations of love from the rooftops, if you’re naturally in love, you’re going to be beaming about it. If your friends, family, and loved ones are always telling you how happy you look, or how different you’ve been since you started dating your partner, you can usually take those observations to heart – they mean something if other people can notice them.
When you’ve truly found ‘the one,’ it will be almost impossible not to know it. Many people simply equate finding their soulmate to an overall ‘feeling,’ or deep connection that they’ve never felt before. The best thing you can do is to go with your ‘gut,’ for lack of a better word, and make sure you’re open to the idea that you’ve found the right person for you, once and for all.
